Savings interest calculator

How to Calculate Interest on Savings:

Calculating interest on savings comes down to a few key details: how much you start with, how much you add each month, your interest rate, and how long you save. This calculator uses compound interest, applied monthly, to show how your savings could grow over time as both your deposits and earned interest build.

Credit union savings account FAQ

Have questions?

Have questions about opening a savings account at a credit union? Learn who can become an Embers member, what you need to open an account, how savings deposits are insured, and which savings option may fit your goals.

Who can become an Embers Credit Union member?

Are credit union deposits insured?

The National Credit Union Administration's insurance guarantees that you'll receive the money you're entitled to from your deposit account if the credit union becomes insolvent. It guarantees up to $250,000 per person, per institution, per ownership category. The NCUA is a federal agency created by Congress to regulate credit unions and insure your money.

What do I need to open a savings account?

To open a checking account at Embers Credit Union, you’ll need your Social Security number, a valid address, and a $5 opening deposit. As part of the application, we’ll also securely verify your identity in the background and review the information provided to help protect you and prevent fraud.

Where can I open a savings account near me?

Embers Credit Union offers savings accounts for members across the Upper Peninsula, with local branch access in Marquette, Escanaba, Munising, Negaunee, Gwinn, Manistique, and Wells, plus online account opening when you’d rather get started from home!

What is a high-yield savings account?

A high-yield savings account helps your money earn more interest than a traditional savings account, giving your balance a little more spark over time. It can be a good option for emergency savings, future plans, or money you want to keep separate while still earning a higher APY.

At Embers Credit Union, our Money Maker account is a high-yield savings option designed to help your savings grow while still keeping your money accessible. Before opening any high-yield savings account, be sure to review the APY, balance requirements, fees, and how easily you can access your money.

What is a health savings account?

A health savings account, or HSA, is a savings account that lets eligible individuals set aside money for qualified medical expenses. HSAs are commonly used with high-deductible health plans and can help pay for costs like doctor visits, prescriptions, dental care, vision care, and other eligible healthcare expenses.

The money in an HSA belongs to you, so unused funds can stay in the account and continue to be used for future qualified medical expenses.

What are HSA-qualified purchases?

HSA-qualified purchases are eligible medical expenses you can pay for using Health Savings Account funds. These may include doctor visits, prescriptions, dental care, vision care, medical equipment, and other qualified health-related expenses. In general, HSA funds are meant for costs that help diagnose, treat, prevent, or manage a medical condition.

Because IRS rules determine which expenses qualify, it’s a good idea to keep your receipts and check current guidance if you’re unsure whether a purchase is HSA-eligible.
